Dr. John Timothy (Tim) Whitney (14 December 1945〔General Register Office birth entry, Leeds registration district, Oct-Dec 1945, Vol. 9b Page 449〕 - 1990〔"Golden Jubilee of the British Postmark Society" by Cyril R.H. Parsons in Gibbons Stamp Monthly, Vol. 82, No. 974, Nov. 2008, p. 62.〕) was an expert on British postmarks who wrote a popular catalogue on the subject that has been through many editions, and the definitive guide to the stamps and postal history of the Isle of Man. He was also an expert on the philately of the French coastal islands.
